A South Korean term for a large family owned business conglomerate. Typically used in Kdramas, some famous Chaebol story lines are in the dramas "Boys Over Flowers", "The Heirs", "Secret Garden" and "Coffee Prince".
These dramas typically are stories of a very rich young male who is the heir to a large business that falls in love with a girl that is "low" on the social status at least, in the parents opinion.
"Oh man I HATE Chaebol love stories, they're all so cliche and predictable!"

I know a family in Korea that is chaebol
Rich South Korean families that no different from the Italian Mob or the Yakuza. Their goal is to turn South Korean into the modern day Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere by stealing all the money from Korean workers and overcharging foreign buyers.
Chaebols are worse than the WPK and the CCP.
