contrarian

Someone who automatically tends to take the opposite point of view from the person to whom they're speaking, or to disagree with society at large out of a sort of knee-jerk reflex.

Friend: I've got some ice cream, you want vanilla or chocolate?
Contrarian: Um, do you have strawberry?
----
Friend: I love indie rock, you heard of these guys?
Contrarian: Yeah, but they're not really that indie, though.
----
Friend: I guess you're too contrary to vote Democrat or Republican, right? So, what, Libertarian? Green Party? ...Socialist Party?
Contrarian: Of course not, I don't think that any formal political party is a suitable representation of an individual's views.
Friend: *sigh*

contrarian

A person or group who automatically opts for the opposite view, for the sake of being antagonistic, not because they have a good argument or view point.

Gerald: GO ISIS
Friend1: Why the fuck is Gerald pro-ISIS? I thought he was part of the FSA?
Friend2: He's Sunni now, he can't make up his mind. His allegiances shift faster than Trump's cabinet reshuffles. He's such a contrarian.

contrarian

1) A person who disagrees with the mainstream or accepted view because he believes it makes him look good and feeds his ego, not because his argument is well thought-out or rational.
2) A false iconoclast who attacks the idols of truth and social justice in order to bring freedom to the status quo and powerful interests.
3) A person who believes they are staking a claim of intellectual daring by suggesting that progress has harmed society.

That Caitlin Flanagan is a real contrarian, always willing to challenge the notion that women are the intellectual and social equals of men by brazenly daring to send them back to the kitchen.

Contrarian

There it is! I've been waiting for that one. That took a minute. You know how many times I've thought about doing a definition here?

Hym "I'm going to assume you're talking about me but I'll address the difference between anarchism and the woke left. The woke left feints the desire for the dissolution of government. When in reality everything they do is a power grab. I on the other hand, only call of the dissolution of the federal money syphon. No more army pirate. He can go home. No more old lady stock market fraud. No more gomer authoritarian president. State government can still exist. No problem with a little order. That's the difference. Oh, and by the way, Thomas Sowell also says "Intellectuals serve no purpose other than to make things over complicated". I don't want to control anyone. I just want payment for services rendered and to be acknowledge for doing a thing that (according to your own metrics) is objectively good. Prerequisite text for a multitude of entertainment.

I also have some citations under my belt and you're one of the people who has cited me (name redacted). Do you want to control anyone? Is there anyone that is doing something that you don't want them to do? Are you doing, literally, ANYTHING to make them do something other that what they are currently doing? And how is your ethic any different from a form a social Lysenkoism? People are made stronger through competition and being arbitrarily subjected to hard elements. I mean, we live in the post-therapy generation and who's the most cited psychologist in all of Canada? What's the collective psychology looking like over there? That's the problem with having the most citations. If you're WRONG, then everyone who cited you is ALSO WRONG. Don't you predate the dysfunction of both of the countries you're involved with? No, you're right. You can't even consider the possibility that you're making things worse because you're better than your opposition and deserve the virtue that they want more than they do. That's ALL competence means to you. It's not arbitrary. I deserve this more than everyone but especially more than HYM. No, no I'm a contrarian."
