Made popular after politics professor Matthew Goodwin promised to eat his new book if Labour polled over 38% in the 2017 UK general election under Jeremy Corbyn.
On 27 May 2017 he tweeted: "I'm saying this out loud. I do not believe that Labour, under Jeremy Corbyn, will poll 38%. I will happily eat my new Brexit book if they do".
After the 2017 election, where Labour gained 40% of the vote under Corbyn, Matthew ate his book on live TV after a large amount of pressure on Twitter.
