Getting on the cans

An Australian expression for drinking beer. It usually refers to consuming packaged beer away from licensed premises, typically at home or a barbecue. Other types of alcohol are not usually consumed when one is β€œgetting on the cans”.

Well mate, I knock off at 4pm and it’s a quick drive home, so I’ll be getting on the cans by 5pm at the very latest!
