give no face

A give no face is a facial expression formed by relaxing all the facial muscles and above all, not smiling. It is most commonly seen among adolescents in the San Francisco Bay Area. One aspect of this culture of 'giving-no' is the comparison of one's give no face with those of one's friends. It has become a quintessential part of daily life for many high-school students in the region, and has started to make inroads into other regions, like Boston and New York City.

GIVE ME FACE!

A term used to demand the action of "a snog" by the use of rolling on the floor screaming "GIVE ME FACE!" in an extremely drunken fashion. Preferably whilst trying to remove an item of clothing.

Vikki - "Wow she is reeeeaally smashed right now, watch out this is when she starts to get horny..."

Tiff - "GIVE ME FACE! GIVE ME FACE! GIVE ME FACE!"

Giving face

Face: The term face idiomatically refers to one's own sense of dignity or prestige in social contexts. In the English-speaking world, the expression "To save face" describes the lengths that an individual may go to in order to preserve their established position in society, taking action to ensure that one is not thought badly of by their peers. It is a fundamental concept in the fields of sociology, sociolinguistics, semantics, politeness theory, psychology, political science, communication, and face negotiation theory, and translates at least somewhat equivalently into many world languages, both Germanic and otherwise.

Giving face: complimenting another which allows for their increase in social standing.

Taking face: bringing another person down in social standing by criticism.

Saving face: attempting to avoid embarrassment.
