in a 180 degree reality from current definitions, "on ice" refers to someone whos been killed, wacked, snuffed out, murdered, etc., the association being how dead bodies used to be stored on a block of dry ice at the morgue to keep them from rapidly rotting before the days of capable air conditioning systems.
