A very low budget horror film that was originally just an independent film at a movie fest, but became so popular by demand it was released in October of 2009 all over the country.
The plot is a young couple move in together and are experiencing paranormal phenomenon from something like a demon, etc. I don't want to give anymore away.
Now this movie has gotten mixed reviews so I will be Switzerland here and tell you the truth. First off, the hype was so over the top it was unrealistic. But just because of the hype, doesn't mean it's not an amazing movie.
This movie messes with your mind. Not with your eyes (blood, etc.) There is very little blood in the movie and that is the point. What this movie does it takes everything you can't explain (ex. Finding your keys in the middle of the floor the next morning unexplainably) and tells you that a demon/ghost/etc. did it. Yes, I know it sounds unreasonable, but after watching the movie you'll know exactly what I mean.
People with a very low, shallow, realistic imagination will find this movie to be a piece of crap. Because they don't think twice about anything.
People with a very large, crazy, and colorful imagination will put a lot of thought into this and the movie will be so terrifying in so many unexplainable ways.
The movie builds off anticipation, suspense, and terror. Not cheap blood and bad actors.
Person 1: Oh my god! The ending of Paranormal Activity freaked the crap outta me! I'm definitely not sleeping alone!!
Person 2: What the hell? The movie was a bunch of bull. It was cheap and had no blood. I'm definitely not buying the DVD.
Person 1: Well you don't have an imagination do you? Can't wait till you get possessed. ;)

An independent horror film that made it big due to popular demand.
This movie is a rare type of horror that is scary because:
-its made to look real life
-it uses a person's fear of the unexplained and the supernatural
-its so simple it looks more real because there are really only 4 actors seen and there is only one set(the house)
-it scares you then gives you a break then scares you even more
-it includes the oh-so common cliff-hanger ending (like in Quarantine )
Overall not as scary after as other horror movies.
"Paranormal Activity didn't scare me until last night. How about you?"
"Yeah, it didn't bother me till this morning when I was getting out of bed. I felt lazy and wished someone would drag me out then I remembered the movie and was like HELL NO!"
"I think it doesn't bother me out of the theater cuz my house looks nothing like that."

A sexual stunt, or act, in which a man is penetrating a female from behind, while he has her face a window that is open, then he tags his friend in while she isnβt looking to finish the job, meanwhile he walks by the window outside, creating a paranormal effect.
Alex: Yo bro you wanna try to pull a paranormal activity with this girl?
Matt: hell Yeah brother

Paranormal Activity is a 2007 indie horror movie directed by Oren Peli which achieved huge success in late 2009. The movie plays off people's imaginations with very minimal gore and violence. Because of this, people tend to either find the movie one of the scariest they have ever seen or find it to be much too slow. Paranormal Activity is one of the most profitable films in history costing an estimated $11,000 to produce and having grossed approximately $66 million as of October 30th, 2009.
The movie itself follows a young couple, Kate and Micah, as they film themselves attempting to deal with a demonic haunting.
Person 1- "Dude have you seen Paranormal activity yet?"
Person 2- "Yea, it sucked. Nothing jumped out at me and there wasn't enough violence. It was way too boring."
Person 1- "What the hell are you talking about? That was the scariest movie ever! Movie's don't need to be gory like Saw to scare the crap out of you!"

a lame movie that is not scary at all unless you do not know any better and believe it is real. there are three different endings. the people could not act. it does not matter that there was not any blood or whatever, and i have a wonderful imagination, but the movie was only suspenseful. it was slow paced. it is not the most terrifying horror film. the movie was pretty much filmed in the bed room, and the only thing that happened was a door wiggling, some annoying footprints that took forever going up steps, animal footprints in the powder they left in weird places, the girl stood there, and some screaming.
a total waste of money.
"dude, did you go watch paranormal activity?"
-"ya man, my girl didn't even get scared, it was so lame"
"ya i know, i'm so glad i didn't go to theaters to watch that over hyped lame movie"
-"haha yah. they couldn't even pronounce Micah right!"

The movement made by standing still and then shifting your weight back and forth ever-so-slightly. This 'dance' is in relation to the film Paranormal Activity in which the time lapse shot of the main female character standing over her partners bed appears to make her 'dance'.
This movement can also be used to freak out your friends in the middle of the night.
Adam: Yeah! Kevin was so drunk last night all he could do was break out into the Paranormal Activity Dance.

the act of something being so creepy it should have been in the paranormal activity movie, or it reminded on of a certain part of that movie
Dude did you see Sam standing over her boyfriends body last night?
Yeah homie that was straight paranormal activity worthy
