Referring mostly to the particular species of centipede scutigera coleoptrata, or house centipede, the term is derived from the naturally playful nature of the lil' basement-dwellers. Pedes are often found in parties, a gathering referred to as a "pede party", and hang out on the walls of basements and bathrooms, just chillin'.
