as in the old Bob Newhart Show the actor would be pulling a Larry by: 'hi my name is Larry, and this is my brother Darryl and Darryl.' and 5 minutes later in the same episode 'hi my name is Larry, and this is my brother Darryl and Darryl.

The phrase comes from Stephanie Grace, the Harvard 3rd year law student whose email to a circle of confidantes, setting down her opinions that African Americans are genetically disposed to be less intelligent, went viral. In the last sentence she asks her audience not to pull a Larry Summers on her.
I'll pull a Larry Summers on Felix. Now everyone will know that he screwed the fat chick!

Everyone knew what they meant, but then i pulled a Larry and made a whole goddam PowerPoint for it...
