When one is in a depressed, and/or anxious mood that can be coupled with being home sick or heart broken. Very similar to the funk that Vinny was in on Season 5 of the Jersey Shore.

Steve: Man, I texted the girl I like last night and she gave me the friend zone response....I've been in a vinny groove ever since.
