Gringo

Someone who has absolutely zero sense of style. The type of person who has no awareness over how they are perceived and are usually stiff necks, not just physically but in a way in which they might take something very mundane and harmless very frantically.

Not just used for Americans, it stretches beyond one demographic in particular but it’s usually attributed to caucasian males somewhere around middle age who wear shorts and maybe a polo shirt.

It’s spring break and this guy just set up a whole picnic right outside the tiny space I have outside my apartment on the beach.

Don’t tell him anything, he’s probably a gringo.

Culero

Mexican slang.

The literal meaning is something like ass, but the actual meanings vary:

1. Meanie
2. Dickhead
3. Asshole

Don’t call the opposition goalkeeper puto outside of Mexico, they might take the connotation as homophobic.

What should I call him instead?

Culero.

But everyone is calling him puto, the entire stadium.

Yes, but don’t be culero.

Se dan un tiro

Mexican slang.

In a literal sense it means they could hold a duel or could easily have a one on one gentleman’s fist fight.

What it actually means is that two things are equal in measure to such a point that they might need to resort to drastic measures in order to change one’s perception.

That chick’s hot af.

Yeah but check out this one…

Squash

To become a couch potato until further notice.

Usually given as an order/instruction by a parent, authority figure or even a personal companion who is asking you to stay put for an indefinite amount of time.

I went to pick up frozen yogurt and bumped into her and the kids and they tagged along and I had to take them a bunch of places.

Why didn’t you tell them to squash themselves?

Güero

Mexican slang.

The literal translation is blonde.

It’s kind of like the Mexican answer to the n word in that it’s called out to white people or darker skinned if they’re either mixed or getting pale or acting like high society.

It’s not seen as derogatory in that even waiters use it in a friendly manner, usually when a white person walks in, but the connotation can be that of calling someone girly.

The underlying factor is that they’re essentially calling someone out in a subtle manner as if they’re looking to rise above the class ranks by being a source of creating offspring with lighter colored eyes or skin, but in a sense it can be used as a term of endearment of sorts in that they’re sort of bragging about hosting a güero in their presence but it’s usually left ambiguous whether they’re actually happy about it or just making fun of someone’s lighter skin tone indicating a certain leniency to being fragile and sensitive to things in general.

To further emphasize the insult value it can be used with another word to create a double insult like for example: pinche güero/fucking blonde or güero joto/blonde faggot.

However, if it’s not used with another word like that it’s unlikely being used as an insult, and is most likely simply them referring to you by race as a simple means of greeting you.

*Mexican waiter comes over but he doesn’t have time for nonsense because the house is packed*

Güero, what would you like to eat?

I don’t know yet.

Pinche güero joto.
