atomic typo

A typo (one-letter keyboarding mistake, typewriter mistake) that the spell-check function cannot pick up because the word is spelled correctly -- although not for the word you wanted to key in. They are called "atomic typos" because the change of just one letter completely changes the word, although it remains spelled correctly in terms of the spell check function

Examples:

Chris, instead of Christ
war, instead of was
bite, instead of byte
massage, instead of message

Quote: "Wow, the newspaper had an atomic typo on the front page, the writer meant to say "message" but what appeared in the article was "massage". Oops! That's a real atomic typo, and there's very little one can do to stop them!"

quote magnet

(n.) - a famous person, living or dead, who people often attribute quotes to, even though he or she might not have actually said the things they are quoted as saying; examples are Albert Einstein, Mark Twain and Winston Churchill, among others.

"You know, Einstein is a real quote magnet. There are websites and blogs all over the Internet that attribute quotes to him that in some cases he never uttered or wrote. It's hard to know what's true and what's not!"

crash blossoms

(n.) -- a neologism for infelicitously-worded newspaper headlines which at first reading seem to mean one thing but upon second reading mean something completely different; often hard to figure out at first; called "crash blossoms" because one specific headline from a newspaper used the two words -- "crash blossoms" -- in a confusing way
