A rare subspecies of black bear, also known as a spirit bear. Rather than being born with black fur Kermode bears are born with white fur. The kermode bear is the official animal of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is found only in the temperate rainforests of northwest British Columbia near Terrace and on the islands of Haida Gwaii.
Many tourists go to northern British Columbia hoping to see a Kermode, unfortunately, they are extremely rare, and even residents of the area feel very lucky if they ever see one.
The mystery was a strange internet experiment propagated by the Smashing Pumpkins with their final album before breaking up, Machina. The greater part of what most fans refer to as the mystery occured in the Meaning of Symbols Forum.
Admins for the site gave clues and fans worked with those clues to discover user names and passcodes to open locked sites. Each site almost invariably led to another. There was supposed to be a cartoon featuring the Ghost Children, the otherworldly fans of Glass and the Machines of God, the fictional alter-ego band of the Smashing Pumpkins. However, only about 20 minutes of the cartoon was ever released, in its unfinished form, before the project was dropped.
The whole mystery seemed to just fizzle out with the band, especially once Billy Corgan became preoccupied with Zwan, another musical project. It is a very difficult and convuluted thing to explain. The mystery was something that needs to be experienced to be understood.
What was the point of the Mystery?
Bear is transport trucker slang for police officers. "Bear" is a term Truckers on the number one highway in Canada use on the CB to warn other truckers that there is a police officer monitering speed on the highway.
Trucker one: Hey! I just spotted a bear!
Trucker two: Where at?
Trucker one: by the 58 marker, on the right o way.
Trucker two: I'll pass it on.
Hieroglyphic Masquerade is a seven peice band from Northern British Columbia. Their haunting mix of flute, turntables, strings (various), vocals, synth and electronic beats is unmatched in beauty and complexity.
Hieroglyphic Masquerade never plays shows in cities outside of Northern British Columbia.
MB is an acronym for Magic Burst. Specific to FFXI, a Magic Burst occurs when a mage fires off a spell in co-ordination with a combo executed by bashers and damage dealers. In order to be sucessful and Magic burst must employ a spell of a type matching the combo being performed by the other members of the party. It is possible to have more than one mage complete a magic burst per combo.
We're pulling a Liquifaction combo so cast a fire spell for MB.
The Official Smashing Pumpkins message board was nicknamed the O-board by users to distinguish it from unofficial fan sites.
I miss the O-board, since it shut down lots of people stopped posting.
A slang term for UNBC, the University of Northern British Columbia. It is so called because its lower admission requirements, combined with its lower tuition fees and the lower cost of living where the university is located, in Prince George, often make it a choice of necessity rather than true choice.
However the university is ranked quite high in Canadian standings for achievement and quality of education.
I fucked up my GPA by failing a sculpture class, now I have to finish my English degree at the University of No Better Choice!
