Lose the plot

To lose all self control and go absolutely bonkers. Make stupid and irrational decisions. In most cases only lasts a few minutes but sometimes can be permanent which will require long periods of habitation in psychiatric hospitals with the men in white coats.

Jimmy will lose the plot when he finds out someone stole his New Kids On The Block album.

Plot Device

A fatal disease that causes the death of a character, whether major or minor. The character(s) that has died of Plot Device has/have bitten the dust in order to somehow advance the plot (ie: the plot would not move forward without their death)

To determine if the true cause of a character's death was indeed Plot Device, one needs to look at the events following the death and ask if the plot would have moved forward if the character hadn't died. If it would not have, the character has died of Plot Device.

(Plot Device was named so by the fact that anything that moves the plot forward is a plot device.)

Lily and James Potter (Harry Potter), L (Death Note), Shinobu Sensui (YuYu Hakusho), Press Tilton (Pendragon), Brom (Eragon), Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Batman), and many more have died from Plot Device.

Unfortunately, Plot Device seems to be the true killer of many of the fan-favorites.

Plot Coupons

A plot Coupon is a term used for describing lack of plot etc. from books games etc. allowing the writer/ director to do basicly any thing that would normaly have been ruled out by the situation/ charicters/ personalities, often in an idiotic, improbable or unexplainable manner.

It can also be used in real life situations for unexpected bouts of luck.

Did you see how many plot coupons that film used?

Plot Polonium

The opposite of plot armor: a predictable guarantee that a character will die for plot purposes.

Refers to the 2006 assassination of Russian defector Alexander Litvinenko in London using polonium, a dangerous and radioactive element.

Andrew: That dude is making out with the main character’s love interest!
Bill: He has plot polonium. He’ll die by two episodes. I’m calling it.
