The Democratic Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with its rival, the Republican Party. It is the worlds oldest active political party. Democrats generally tend to adopt left wing views, advocating social and economic equality. The Northeastern states are typically more left leaning and the Democratic party is more supported by those living in urban areas and younger demographics. As of 2019, 15 Democrats have served as President of the United States.
