gullible

A term most often used by dishonest people to refer to those harmed by their dishonesty. The term is used to excuse the dishonest person from any responsibility and attribute the bad fortune their deception caused to their trusting victims being dumb and deserving to be cheated.

When asked about the family members who trusted him and he cheated out of their life savings, the selfish criminal claimed that his family members were gullible and deserved to be cheated.
