A taunt, threat, or warning given when someone or something commits to an action or course, that will certainly lead to negative repercussions.
"So do you think I can swing by and try out that 303 and those Eurorack patches?"
"DUDE you broke my DX7. And you ate all my pecan sandies. Wanna fuck around and find out?"
Past tense version: Fucked around and found out.
1. When a person or people do or are going to do something idiotic or dangerous that will lead undoubtedly to consequences.
2. A threat. When someone is warning another that if they do a certain thing (e.g. Punching the person) they will attack them physically.
1. Rachel decided to poke a sleeping bear with a stick, the bear woke up and mauled her. She fucked around and found out.
2. Jake and Barry are arguing with each other, Barry readies his fist as if going to punch Jake. Jake looks him in the eyes and says "You want to Fuck around and find out?"
Barry punches Jake, Jake proceeds to beat up Barry.
It's a preamble to an ass beating. Widely used by Southern and Northern African Americans. My Grandad who was in his late 80's back in the 70's used to say it to us kids when we were misbehaving.

A casual invitation / threat used by an individual that is not afraid of fucking someone up.

A warning given when someone is acting foolishly and about to face consequences, commonly used in the setting of a bar or street fight.
Ex. 1: When a person is provoked they might respond to the aggressor with "Fuck Around and Find Out."
