Itâs a rifle
The 7.62Ã51mm NATO (official NATO nomenclature 7.62 NATO) is a rifle cartridge developed in the 1950s as a standard for small arms among NATO countries. It should not be confused with the similarly named Russian 7.62Ã54mmR cartridge. Shortly after World War II, the AK-47 was designed, later becoming the world's most widespread military-pattern rifle. The cartridge remained the Soviet standard until the 1970s.
(Sometimes you can the this in song ex: 21 Savage - Snitches & Rats minute 2.55
Savage creates a portmanteau of two popular rifle cartridges, the 7.62 and the .223.)
In the 21st century the 7.62Ã39mm remains a common service rifle chambering, including for newly developed rifles like the AK-15.
