/mÉp/ n. Contraction for 'meetup'. A social engagement serving as the platonic equivalent of going on a date. The event at which two strangers or acquaintances meet up in order to pursue a friendship. M'ups usually occur after an individual, most often an adult working professional, moves to a new city alone and is forced to participate in the m'upping scene in order to make friends.
Text conversation between two old friends:
Sush: Hey, how's life after your big move to Denver? Make any new friends yet?
Cat: It's going well! I have a m'up later today with this girl I met during a networking event. I'm kind of nervous but see a lot of potential for friendship!
