nerkle

Name of an animal in Dr. Seuss's "If I ran the zoo." The word "nerd" just before it caught on as a word while nerkle didn't so as a joke, a teacher once called it the name of the current shape of Washington D.C.

"Maybe I'll have a nerd or a nerkle in my zoo and name Washington D.C. after it."
