A period of 2-4 weeks following the first cool, crisp morning of fall (below 50 degrees f), during which single females actively seek out males with which to spend the coming winter months.

Analogous to the rut observed in deer during early winter. Commonly observed in Morgantown, WV beginning mid-October.
