Viola

The Viola is the second highest instrument in the string orchestra, and it is bigger than a violin. Although, it is often mistakenly thought as a violin. The strings from highest to lowest, are A4, D4, G3, and C3. It is also tuned in fifths, and reads Alto clef.

“Woah, is that a violin?”
*Violist smacks person.*
“No you idiot, it’s a viola.”

Violin

A Violin is the smallest stringed instrument in the string family, and the highest. It’s strings are from the second highest string to the lowest, and then the highest open string is, A4, D4, G3, and E5. It is tuned in fifths. The instrument is quite popular in the music world. Often used in classical music, bluegrass music, and country.

String Orchestra

A “String Orchestra” is a group of people that play either Violin, Viola, Cello, or the Double Bass. Sometimes, people confused a String Orchestra with a Full Orchestra. A Full Orchestra consists of the instruments listed above, but also has woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

“I play in a String Orchestra.”
