Awa

A popular Caymanian word used to close a sentence with a question, usually with the meaning “ or what”. “Awa” in the Cayman Islands can be compared to the phrase “Eh” in Canada or the phrase “Right” in the United States. “Awa” gained popularity in the Cayman Islands with older generations, and has since been adopted by younger Caymanian generations and taken abroad with the Caymanian diaspora.
