Brootal kid

When an emo or scene kid gets tired of being depressed and listening to softcore music they become "Brootal kids". A brootal kid is like a Scene kid, but wears darker clothing and listens to hardcore music (Deathcore, Grindcore, Technical Metal, etc). Contrary to popular belief, Brootal kids are not all unsophisticated. Technical genres are even popular among Brootal kids.

Scene kid: Check out my new neon green tshirt. I can wear it and listen to some pop punk.
Brootal kid: I'm more into this black tshirt. I wear it when I listen to deathcore.

Mosher

Somebody who listens to rock, punk, metal, and doesn't conform to social norms. Usually dresses in a similar way to the music they listen to, but a lot of moshers dress how they feel. They're basically modern day hardcore kids.

Industrial

The term "Industrial" first popped up in the 1970s, and is still used today to refer to experimental styles of music. The word Industrial was originally used to describe a style of noisy, experimental style of electronic music that draws on transgressive themes, but now it's a much broader term. Bands nowadays are fusing the industrial style with other genres like metal, rock, electro, etc. These styles are known as "post-industrial". The term is now simply used to describe and musical style that is experimental instrumentally and provocative lyrically.

The word Industrial also refers to the culture. The Industrial culture is quite similar to Goth culture, but there are many differences too. Goths (male or female) tend to go for androgynous clothing, wheras Industrialists almost always wear masculine clothing. Ideologically, Goths are usually more interested in smaller ethics (such as non conformity, creativity, being different) but Industrialists are often more political. Industrial is the masculine, angry, political, scientific side, and Goth is the dark, creative, romantic, bizarre side. One thing both cultures have in common is their love for shocking people.

Industrialists will usually listen to any experimental or noisy style of music, which is why rock and metal are very popular genres in the culture. Dress styles can be quite simple, but many industrialists will wear punk like clothing.

Long story short, industrial is fucking awesome

Person one: Look at that Goth over there. I didn't know Goths could be that masculine.
Person two: No, he's Industrial.

Person one: wtf is that
Person two: Basically a masculine Goth.

Screamo

A subgenre of emo that was invented when emo turned mainstream. The word Screamo is usually used to describe metalcore and heavy post hardcore that have emotionally charged lyrics, which are often screamed. The emotions used in Screamo songs are usually more angry than whiney, but can still be very whiney. Anger IS an emotion, but MTV seem to think otherwise! Real emo/screamo comes from real emotions, not fake whiney bullshit emotions that the emo singers don't even have.

Mainstream emo fan: How can you diss Pierce the Veil?!?! You must be a heartless screamo fan!
Screamo fan: Fuck your fake emotions you introverted asshole

electro-emo

Electro-emo is a fusion between Emo and Electronic Dance Music (EDM). Pioneered by Panic at the Disco, the style can feature synthesisers, drum loops, guitars and vocals (sometimes screamed). A genre related to this is Crunkcore, which also includes hip-hop influences. This style uses repetitive hip hop beats, screamed vocals and house influenced synths.

These genres are basically for misguided emo kids who can't stand punk, metal or alternative, but still want their music taste to be known as "Emo" so they can go into Hot Topic without being ripped to shreds by screamo revivalists.

Emo: Hey, do you like Orchid?
Xx_Scenie_Weenie_xX: ORCHID?! Get that satanic shit away from me! I only like electro-emo...
Emo: cunt

Scene kid

The Scene subculture (aka. Scene people, scenesters, trendies) is all about experimenting with alternative fashion and discovering new music. Fashion for scene girls usually consists of dyed hair (usually teased) and bright clothing. Fashion for scene guys however is usually darker and more emo/hardcore looking. Band shirts and skinny jeans are VERY common in the scene subculture, along with skate shoes. Common music styles associated with scene are crunkcore, metalcore, deathcore, emo, screamo, and pretty much all electronic music. Crunkcore is the most popular genre, for now.

how to be a scene kid

1. Pick a music genre
2. Dress like everybody in Hot Topic
