Hispania is the name the Romans gave to the Iberian Peninsula (SW Europe). In this peninsula are nowadays Spain and Portugal (Spain=EspaΓΒ±a=Hispania). The Romans also called Britannia (now Britain) or Germania (now Germany), or Italia (Italy), etc.
Great Roman Emperors, as Trajan or Hadrian, were born in Spain, formerly called Hispania.
