An industrial city in the north-east of the Czech republic.
Biggest producer of black coal in the country.
Used to have the nickname "steel heart" of the country.
It has the largest town hall in the whole country - Nová radnice (the new town hall).
It is famous for Stodolnà street, which is flooded with Polaks all the time, Colours Of Ostrava , the famous music festival and FC BanÃk Ostrava - the not so succesful soccer team with a MASSIVE fanbase. Basically if you're Ostravak and not a Chachar (BanÃk's fan)...what's wrong with you?
Overall Ostrava is quite beautiful, it does have it's flaws but it's my home and I can't imagine living somewhere else in the Czech republic than here.
A: "I heard y'all are suffocating because of the smog in Ostrava, that must be horrible!"
B: "Steel city, steel lungs, I'm just used to it."

FC BanÃk Ostrava.
Ostrava's soccer team, formerly SK Slezská Ostrava
Fans are called ChachaÅi.
The club was founded in 1922 as SK Slezská Ostrava, when 20 activists signed the establishment treaty in the U Dubu restaurant. The signatories were mostly poor coal miners from the Kamenec coal mining settlement in Ostrava.
The club is loved by it's fans, who lovingly call it "BanÃÄek".
Many famous Czech soccer players started in BanÃk, for example Milan BaroÅ¡, Marek Jankulovski, Peter Drozd, Martin RaÅ¡ka, Jan LaÅ¡tůvka or Václav SvÄrkoÅ¡.
The home-field of BanÃk used to be Stará StÅelnice (till the 50s), then the well known Bazaly , but due to it's bad condition the club has moved to the city stadium in VÃtkovice.
Wife: Kde jdeš? (Where are you going?)
Husband: Na BanÃk. (To see BanÃk play.)
The fan of FC BanÃk Ostrava.
