Muff

In American football - when a punt returner calls for a fair catch or intends to let the ball bounce and be downed by the kicking team, and either drops the ball or otherwise touches it without taking possession resulting in a fumble that can be recovered by the kicking team.

And the punt is up.... oh it's a beauty - he got all of that one..... Devin Hester's back to receive it. He's waiving for fair catch and......... OH NO!! He's dropped it. Hester has muffed the kick!! And the Patriots recover. Hester, normally sure handed, has muffed another one. Not what the Ravens had in mind when they brought him in.
