Electro Swing

A strange but surprisingly cool genre of electronic dance music originating in the 2000s that fuses elements of electro, techno, house, funk and hip hop with Dixieland jazz, swing and gypsy jazz from the 1920s, 30s and 40s. Parov Stelar and Caravan Palace are a couple artists of notable interest.

Did you hear that new Electro swing tune by Caravan Palace? It’s really good!

King K. Rool

The Kong Family's true nemesis in the Donkey Kong series. He's a giant kremling (crocodile) that enjoys stealing Donkey Kong's Banana Hoard, or kidnapping Donkey or Diddy themselves. He has been known to take on different personas, whether it be a boxer, a pirate, a mad scientist or regular kingly attire. He is also thought to be mentally unstable, which can further be proven by his mannerisms in Donkey Kong 64 and his large, very noticeable bloodshot eye.

DK: Oh, no! King K. Rool stole my Banana Hoard again!

Chord

A set of three or more notes played simultaneously, traditionally (at least, in the Western sense) made up of a root, third and fifth.

The main kinds of chords are major, minor, diminished and augmented. However, there are many different variations on even just these. Particularly in jazz and funk, sevenths, ninths, elevenths and thirteenths are stacked on top of each other. There are variations on these too which alter some of the other scale degrees.

That chord is really pretty!

Wario

After Bowser, Wario is Mario’s greatest rival. Despite popular belief, the two are NOT related.

Wario is a very mean, greedy, disgusting and rude caricature of Mario. Unlike Mario, he isn’t just plump, he’s very obese. His mustache radiates much more wild and powerful energy than Mario’s.

Ability-wise, he’s incredibly strong and able to lift characters and objects that are much, much heavier than him. His shoulder bash is a signature move of his in the Wario Land series.

Wario is both a treasure hunter and a successful businessman, founding WarioWare Inc., a video game company that specializes in short 5-second games called microgames. He often cheats his employees out of their earnings but never truly gets away with it.

Wario is without a doubt one of the most entertaining characters in the Mario franchise.

Wander Over Yonder

A really good cartoon created by Craig McCracken that got the ax too early because of Disney. It follows the adventures of an alien in another galaxy named Wander with his blue friend and steed, Sylvia. They’re constantly on the run from the self-proclaimed “greatest in the galaxy”, Lord Hater, a manchild skeleton dude with some pretty cool electricity powers and his army of eyeball aliens (in the show they’re called Watchdogs) and the commander of said army, Commander Peepers. Yes, it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.

Wander Over Yonder was a great show until Disney canceled it. Weird yes, but great.

Classical Music

A truly beautiful style of music that has lasted for centuries. A style of European art music from the 17th to 18th centuries. Listen to "Winter" by Antonio Vivaldi. It's a masterpiece.

While it is a beautiful style of music, many people look down on many other genres because of it. You can't label every genre as bad just because there are some bad songs from it. I see a lot of talk about rap on this page, and many of criticisms I see come from pure ignorance. Listen to "Eye Know" by De La Soul, and you'll see that not all of it is bad.

Music snob: Classical music is the only real style of music there is.

Open-minded person: I agree that it's very beautiful, but I think you're speaking from ignorance. There's some pretty good rap music out there too if you look hard enough.

Music snob: Rap isn't real music!

Open-minded person: Smh.

Jazz

An early style of American-born popular music that came about as a result of fusion between ragtime, blues, folk and classical in the early 20th century. Its style is very heavily rooted in West African tradition while taking some conventions from European classical music, with swung notes, blue notes, heavy syncopation and (generally) complex chord progressions (though it really depends on the style). Because it’s been around for so long now, it has evolved to such an incredible degree that the OG jazz you would listen to in 1920s Louisiana (Dixieland) is vastly different than something you would hear in, for example, the 1970s (Fusion). As a result, there are so many different sub genres to choose from if you’re getting into it, each with their own quirks. From swing to bebop and gypsy jazz to smooth jazz, there’s something for just about anyone.

Jazz is also a method of looking at music in both a compositional and performance sense. There are many tunes and genres today that make use of this, such as lo fi hip hop and funk.

“In the Mood” by Glenn Miller is a classic jazz tune. So are “Mr. P.C.” by John Coltrane and “Minor Swing” by Django Reinhardt.
