When you say something to someone with the intention of foreshadowing an excuse youâre going to say at a later time, this way when you end up saying your excuse to the person whoâs asking you they will then understand your reasoning because of what you said earlier.
Person 1 - âThereâs a chance I will be able to hangout later but my coach might schedule a practice last minuteâ
Person 2 - âOkay, but that kind of sounds like a Huttner Excuseâ
When you say something with an intention to foreshadow an excuse with the other person not knowing thatâs your intentions, so when itâs eventually said the person itâs said to will understand your reasoning even though he/she that said it is not actually being serious.
Person 1: âThereâs a chance I will be able to hang later but I might not be able to because I might have a baseball practice scheduledâ
Person 2: âOkay, But that sounds a lot like a Huttner Excuseâ
