Refers to an individual of second-generation Japanese descent.

Both of my parents were born and raised in Japan, but I was born in a different country after they immigrated, so that makes me a Nisei.

Japanese-American

Refers to an individual of Japanese descent living in the United States of America, or any manifestation of Japanese culture that has been acculturated for the Americas.

My Japanese-American friend was born here and exhibits a mixture of Japanese and American mannerisms.

Sansei

Refers to an individual of third-generation Japanese descent.

My grandparents are from Japan, but my parents were born and raised in another country, so that makes me a Sansei.
