False Positive

A spurious ping on the gaydar. Those utterly heterosexual folks who consistently (and generally unknowingly) trip queer folks into thinking they are also gay or lesbian.

Although not in any way limited to this list, heterosexual men who are

1) faintly swishy in behaviour or
2) well-groomed and attired or
3) remarkably toned and muscular or
4) wearing a luxurious mustache along with a military fade haircut
may all end up as false positives.

Although not in any way limited to this list, heterosexual women who are

1) faintly masculine in behaviour or haircut
2) prone to sensible shoes or flat-heeled boots
3) often in charge
4) not drowned in cosmetics
5) softball players
may all end up as false positives.

The term carries no pejorative weight. Gaydar is a finely-calibrated instrument, can be easily thrown off, and no blame is assigned either to the hapless straight or to the wondering queer when a false positive is discovered.

(slang term, queer subculture, noun)

"Look, Martha, I know Betty's a hot softball coach, but she's married and monogamous and straight. Give it up. She's just a false positive."

leatherdyke

A dyke (homosexual woman, lesbian, queer woman) who does kink or BDSM with other women. So named because of the very common leather sexual fetish (similar to same in the gay men's leather community) that exists in the women's queer/kink community.

The term leatherdyke applies equally to tops, bottoms, and switches.

One need not own or wear leather to self-identify as a leatherdyke. But it helps.

I had a date with a leatherdyke last night, and she spanked me. I think I liked it.

dyke daddy

A leatherdyke (kinky queer woman) who does ageplay as the older, protective partner in her relationship with another adult woman.

This is a consensual, acknowledged, sexualized role, often mixed with some variety of BDSM, especially D/s. Some dykes treat this relationship seriously, building family of choice, while others form strictly sexual/BDSM liasons while in scene.

The "child" of a dyke daddy, while adult, will ageplay as a a boy (boydyke, boidyke, dyke boi, butch woman) or a girl (grrl, grrldyke, femme woman etc). Ageplay as a teen is most common.

A dyke daddy is often butch (masculine in appearance/actions) but may be androgynous, ki-ki, futch or femme. She need not be actually older than her boi or grrl.

Daddy/boi, Daddy/grrl play is generally not incest-fetish, but closer to a nurturing power dynamic.

The woman over there in the leather chaps and engineer boots? She's my dyke daddy.

Overboobage

Of women, when one's (bra) cup runneth over slightly, marring slightly the smooth convex curve of bra and boob-top. A tiny amount of overboobage is intriguing, but excessive overboobage leads to the much-feared four-boob effect. Overboobage is most prevalent in push-up bras, but can be found in any over-tight bra that is not full-coverage.

Bring me another bra. This one's cups are too small, and I'm getting severe overboobage.

Futch

A lesbian, dyke or other variety of queer woman who possesses or displays qualities and identifiers of both butch and femme. (noun)

Futch (adjective) describes:
a) a non-standard display of female masculinity, which contains elements of the feminine (such as clothing, walk, cosmetics, shoes).
b) a non-standard display of queer femininity, containing elements of the masculine (such as clothing, walk, cosmetics, shoes).

If butch/femme is a spectrum, a futch may be found at any or all of the points in between.

A futch presentation may occasionally be ephemeral, caused by the migration of an woman's queer self-identity, but is much more likely to be ongoing and deliberate; reflecting an individual's own position of comfort on the queer gender presentation scale.

Tila Tequila's date, Dani Campbell, a lesbian firefighter from Florida, claims she invented the word "futch" to describe herself as being part butch, part femme. However, a spot of research will reveal that the word has been in moderate usage in the dyke community since at least 1990. Dani would have had to be a very inventive little futch at 11 to be the word's progenitor.

Sometimes futch sighting is a false positive, as in the case of many rural women who make the gaydar spang wildly, but who are merely hetero women who portray common lesbian markers, such as speaking firmly, gesturing strongly, taking no nonsense, and using no botox. While wearing boots.

As I was getting ready for my date with the new girl, I had a hard time deciding whether to put on my suit and tie or my heels and dress. Good thing she likes a futch, because it doesn't matter which I pick.

Stone Femme

Stone Femme (StoneFemme) is a term often used within lesbian communities.

To say someone is stone is to say that that person does not permit sexual touch, esp. penetrative, upon their person. In other words, if a stone person is having partnered sex they would be the pitching, not the catching, partner. (See Stone Butch)

In common usage, Stone Femme has two quite different definitions:

1) Femme-who-is-stone
2) femme-of-a-stone-butch*.

The grammatical parallel structure of stone femme / stone butch would logically indicate that the femme, like the butch, is uninterested in receiving sexual touch. Thus, femme-who-is-stone.

*The other possible meaning, femme-of-a-stone-butch, simultaneously implies a denial of the possibility that a femme might be stone (by supplanting the parallel term with an identical term with an opposite meaning), and if read the right way, implies a type of relationship ownership, as in "Mrs Stonebutch". This meaning is deprecated.

Mary was the kind of aggressive Stone Femme who made all the non-stone butches want to fling their legs in the air for her, although many of the bolder women had hopeless and unspoken dreams of one day returning the favour.
