ng ga kuen

A style of Southern Shaolin Kung Fu, created about 250 years ago brought from China in the early 20th century by Grandmaster Ark Yuey Wong. He became the first traditional Kung Fu master to teach non-Chinese real Kung Fu in the 60's.

Meaning "Five Family Fist" or "Five Family Boxing", the style puts together the knowledge of the 5 most famous Kung Fu styles from the south of China: Hung Gar (Punching), Lee Gar (Defense), Fut Gar (Open hand techniques), Mok Gar (Kicks) and Choy Gar (Stances and footwork). It is also famous for it's teaching of the 5 Shaolin Animals: Tiger, Dragon, Crane, Snake and Leopard, being one of the first styles to introduce the concept of animal kung fu to the West. As a good southern style, it is known for it's powerful and versatile hand techniques and it's use of quick, deceptive and powerful low kicks, with the 'shadowless kick' being a staple of the system.

It became an incredibly important martial art, influencing several styles through their creators, who absorbed parts of Ng Ga Kuen into theirs styles, such as Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto, creator and preserver of Jeet Kune Do, Douglas Wong creator of White Lotus Kung Fu, Ed Parker, the creator of American Kenpo Karate, Haumea Lefiti who created Lima Lama, James Woo creator of Kung Fu San Soo, among many others.

Today, Ng Ga Kuen is taught in many shapes through the United States, México, Canada and Central and South America.

You'd better not mess with that Miriam girl, I heard she knows Ng Ga Kuen Kung Fu!
