Beginning in 1987 with Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard. Their first release, a cover of a Shocking Blue song Love Buzz pressed on only 1000 numbered vinyl singles. Replacing Aaron, the band borrowed Dale Crover from The Melvins. Shortly afterwards, the band found Chad Channing. Dale was given back and Chad was hired. With this new lineup, Nirvana recorded their first album, Bleach, in 1989.
In 1990, the band entered Smart Studios with producer Butch Vig. The sessions were productive, producing early versions of future hits such as Lithium, Sappy and Polly
During 1991, Dave Grohl's band, Scream, disbanded and hr placed a call to Buzz Osbourne for advice. Nirvana had recently fired Chad, so Buzz suggested to join Nirvana. Dave aced his audition and joined the band.
The band joined Butch Vig for a second time to begin recording their second album for DGC Records. The album, Nevermind, was a massive sucess
s. The album spanned four singles, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Lithium and In Bloom.
After Nirvana's rise to stardom, they toured heavily and released a compilation album, Incesticide, in th1992.
1993 saw Nirvana's final studio album, In Utero. With the critically acclaimed single Heart Shaped Box, it reached international fame. A second single was released with All Apologies and Rape Me.
Due to Cobain's death in 1994, Nirvana disbanded.
