Rebecca Chambers is a rookie member of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team, who is in charge of rear security, and serves as the team's medic. She was portrayed by an actress credited as "Linda" in the live-action segments of the first Resident Evil, Hope Levy in the GameCube remake of the same, Riva DiPaola in Resident Evil Zero7, and by Stephanie Sheh in Umbrella Chronicles. In Zero, she was modeled after Japanese pop star Ayumi Hamasaki, who was the official spokeswoman for the game in Japan.8
Rebecca makes her first appearance in the original Resident Evil, as a supporting character who assists Chris Redfield, one of the main characters, in the character's version of the story.9 She arrives at the Arklay Research Facility before the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, after her unit is scattered across the Arklay Mountains.10 Her introduction and other appearances throughout the game varies depending on the path the player and the character can be controlled by the player during certain portions of the story. Rebecca is one of the main protagonists in Resident Evil Zero, which serves as a prequel to Resident Evil. In the game, Rebecca stumbles aboard the Ecliptic Express while investigating a series of murders within the Arklay Mountains. She encounters a convicted ex-marine, Billy Coen, who helps her. The two discover that the attacks have been masterminded by James Marcus, formerly one of the Umbrella Corporation's top scientists, who has reanimated himself to kill his murderers. Rebecca also appears in Umbrella Chronicles, which summarizes the events of Resident Evil Zero and also appears in two chapters, which detail her experiences between Resident Evil Zero and the first Resident Evil. The chapters pair her off with fellow Bravo Team comrade Richard Aiken, as they work together to fend off hordes of undead creatures on the mansion's estate. In the first game, Rebecca was portrayed by an unknown model named "Linda" and voiced by Lynn Harris. In the 2002 remake, she was portrayed by Hope Levy. Canadian actress Riva Di Paola portrayed her in Resident Evil 0.

Albert Wesker made his first appearance in the original Resident Evil as the commander of the fictional S.T.A.R.S. law-enforcing task force and leader of the Alpha Team division. He appears through the course of the game as a non-playable character assisting whichever main character the player is controlling (Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine) by making sporadic appearances. As the player goes further into the game, evidences begin to appear in the mansion's underground laboratory implicating Wesker as a member of the Umbrella research staff that worked in the mansion prior to the outbreak. Wesker eventually reveals to the main character that he was ordered by his superiors at Umbrella to lure his S.T.A.R.S. subordinates into the mansion, using them as test subjects against the mutated creatures in the mansion to gather battle data. However, he is either: seemingly killed by the Tyrant creature he unleashes before the final battle; or found dead at the lab's control room next to a self-destruct mechanism.
His next appearance was in Resident Evil Code: Veronica, where he appears as an agent working for an unnamed secret organization against Umbrella. He reveals in the fictional documentary, Wesker's Report, that he survived his apparent death in the first game by injecting himself beforehand with an experimental virus provided to him by his former colleague William Birkin. The virus brought him back to life, augmenting him with superhuman strength and agility, but at the expense of his humanity. He appears thorough the latter half of Code: Veronica confronting his former subordinate, Chris Redfield and the game's antagonist, Alexia Ashford.
Wesker then appears in Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 as a conspirator manipulating events from behind the scenes. He is a central character in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, where he appears as a playable character in several of the game's scenarios, expanding upon events alluded to in early games, as well as his involvement in Umbrella's downfall after the events of Code: Veronica and his development in Resident Evil 4. Wesker is voiced by Richard Waugh in Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil Zero; and Peter Jessop voices the character in the 2002 remake of the first Resident Evil game.
Wesker's character was adapted by Sony Pictures for the 2007 film Resident Evil: Extinction. Played by Jason O'Mara, this version of Wesker is the head of the Umbrella Corporation. He runs Umbrella's operations from behind the scenes, holding meetings via hologram with his underground board of directors in an undisclosed location in Tokyo, Japan.

Jill Valentine first appears as one of two playable protagonists in the original Resident Evil. Along with Chris Redfield, she is a member of S.T.A.R.S' Alpha Team, deployed into the Arklay Mountains to search for her missing compatriots. Alpha Team is attacked by a several undead dogs, and retreats to the Arklay Research Facility. Jill initially works with Barry Burton, as they inspect the mansion and discover its undead residents.
Jill returns as the sole protagonist in Resident Evil 3. She fights alongside Carlos Oliveira, a U.B.C.S. soldier who is attempting to escape Raccoon City. Jill encounters Nemesis, a super soldier created by the Umbrella Corporation. She survives the incident, and appears in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles where she works with Chris Redfield to expose and destroy the Umbrella Corporation.6. Jill was portrayed by Una Kavanaugh in the live-action cutscenes of the 1996 Resident Evil game and voiced by Catherine Disher in Resident Evil 3, and Heidi Anderson in the 2002 remake of Resident Evil. She was also a character in the game Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

Chris Redfield first appears in the original Resident Evil as one of two playable protagonists. In the game, he is a member of S.T.A.R.S.' Alpha Team, sent to investigate the disappearance of their compatriots. The squad discovers the remains of Bravo Team's helicopter, but shortly encounter a pack of undead dogs. Chris, accompanied by Albert Wesker and Jill Valentine,1 seek refuge in the nearby mansion, which is filled with deadly traps and horrific monsters. Chris' scenario is more challenging than Jill's, as he has a more limited carrying capacity, and lacks certain items, such as a lockpick and grenade launcher.2 The original Japanese release of the 1996 game features a clip of live-action character portraying him smoking a cigarette, which was removed in the overseas version of the game (but restored in the PC CD-ROM port).3
Chris returns in Resident Evil: Code Veronica, where he attempts to rescue his younger sister, Claire, from a secret Umbrella Corporation facility in Antarctica. While there, he confronts Alexia Ashford, the creator of the T-Veronica Virus, and Wesker. He embarks on a mission to destroy the Umbrella Corporation after the game, which is depicted during the events of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.4 Redfield is the main protagonist in the upcoming Resident Evil 5.5. Chris was voiced by Michael Filipowich in Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and Joe Whyte in the 2002 remake of Resident Evil.
