Gloom

Gloom - Noun (Computer Gaming)

Gloom is a teambased, non-CTF modification to the Quake2 game engine. It pits Aliens vs. Humans in the all too familiar battle for racial superiority. Only a few servers still exist but the community is tightly knit and the people who still play it are mostly seasoned veterans with high levels of skill.

The objective is to destroy the opposite team's "spawns", rendering them unable to continue the game. Some Gloom maps have different objectives to spice things up, such as preventing the other team from escaping on a shuttle or escape pod.

Quite a fun game. If you're interested, do a google search for Gloom Q2, since UD.com doesn't allow links.

"I pwn you at gloom Inu.. lolz" (Player Grim, talking about how he beat me at the game.)

"Gloom is so stale, you all sux!" (Idiot Counterstrike player badmouthing the Gloom players who have infinitely more skill and taste in gaming.)

Suteki

Suteki - Adjective, Japanese in origin

Suteki is japanese for "beautiful". Like some other Japanese words, fans of Japanese culture will sometimes use this word in their english sentences.

A distinction must be made between "Suteki" and "Kawaii".
"Kawaii" is cute, a less serious word.
"Suteki" is beautiful, a word with more impact and used in more serious context.

Kawaii would apply to a plush toy, a figurine, or a costume.

Suteki would apply to a gorgeous female, a situation which is extremely nice, or something very touching such as falling in love.

"Suteki!" (Upon seeing a swimsuit photo of a beautiful girl)

"Suteki da ne?" (Beautiful, isn't it?)

OD, O.D. - Verb, pop culture or medical in origin.

To OD is to Overdose.

In a clinical meaning, it is to exceed the safe dosage of a drug, creating danger. NOT ALL ODS ARE FATAL. In fact most aren't. That's a common misunderstanding.

In a popular slang context, especially in an urban/hip hop setting, "OD" means to do something to EXTREMES. In other words, to go crazy with something.

"My friend OD'd on heroin but we kept him walking and made him drink coffee and he was fine, thank god."(clinical)
