Abreviation of the words "soul mate". Often considered to be romantic, but not soppy. The perfect word to some up a perfect person. Derives from Swindon.

This word is often mistaken with a sexual meaning, "Sex Mate", although how much of a mistake this is is debatable. In todays culture this is how the word is generally used as a slang term for sex:

John: Hey, check this girl out.
Jerry: Damn, i'd love to smate her.
John: Fair enough.
