Chad

Chad is a masculine given name of Anglo-Saxon/Welsh origins. It is the modernized form of the Old English given name Ceadda, influenced by the Welsh word cad meaning "battle". It is also a short form (hypocorism) of Charles and Chadwick.

The name fell in use during the Renaissance, but never disappeared. It reappeared in force around the mid 1960's, first seen & identified w/ "surfer"-types in California - likely rediscovered by that era's "counter-culture" parents looking for new uncommon "old" names w/ deep meanings & heritage.
