happy farm

happy farm

The organic farm at the Plum Village Zen Buddhist monastery in Southern France. Legend has it that this farm was named by somebody who erroneously thought the term "happy farm" was common slang for a mental institution which

was supposed to make the name funny. Actually, "funny farm" is super commonly used to refer to mental institutions while "happy farm" is just the title of a very bad Chinese video game. (Note that "funny farm" has about one hundred times more votes on Urban dictionary than "happy farm.") Really crazy people are considered "funny" because they do things like poop in unusual places, yell at squirrels, and make wierd twisted faces at strangers, so a place with a lot of them is a "funny Farm." Nobody who has been to an actual mental institution would call it a "happy farm," more like a suicide suite.

Have you eaten any of the tomatoes from happy farm, they taste so zen. Too bad they didn't name it funny farm, then the name would actually be funny.

Gamma Male

A person who rejects status and authority, believing that thinking for oneself is possible and desirable, and valuing freedom most.

This orientation puts them at odds with most people in society so Gammas tend to perceived as outsiders, but outsider status may or may not be important to their identity. Gammas tend to be comfortable alone, but have material sexual and social needs like all others. Their attitudes towards society tend to alternate towards disdain for "the herd"(Betas) and their cattle ranchers (Alphas), and a struggle to just accept people as they are and give up bitterness. Often they find a small group of other gammas and proud Betas to hang out with. In relations with Strong Alphas the outcome is usually mutual dislike that sometimes develops into grudging respect. In sexual relationships they can be clingy towards the few people they can relate to, use those they don't respect, or be very detached if they have found happiness in their personal pursuits. Socially, Gammas are usually nice but can turn vicious if their personal space is threatened. They reject prevailing morality, and can be extremely cynical and manipulative, or else "find their own way" often drifting towards a quasi-Buddhistic world view.

Gammas tend to derive satisfaction from their private sense of awe, beauty and mystery, rather than social acceptance or material things. The ability to find satisfaction in these things is often what keeps them going while being misfits in society.

Wolverine and the weird kid from American Beauty are Gamma Males, they are "their own people" doing their own thing and mostly want others just to stay the f away from them, unless they "get it". They will both probably retire to the desert and stare into the distance all day.
