The watermelon, since 1967, has become a symbol representing the Palestinian flag.
âBecause it was forbidden to raise the flag, Palestinians used to and still do, take watermelons and cut them in half and just raise them, showing the inside part. The watermelon contains the same colors as the Palestinian flag: red, white, green and black. "

Watermelon brigades is a reference to activists that support the Palestinian struggle. The watermelon colors - the green, red, white, and black of fruit, rind, and seedsâmatch those of the Palestinian flag and tell the story of the plight and pride of the Palestinian people.
Hundreds marched in support of the Palestinian struggle. Those self-described as "the watermelon brigades" marched to proclaim their support for a Palestinian state.

Watermelon brigades is a derogatory reference, by rightwing writers, to environmental conservationists who they see as "green on the outside, red on the inside", i.e. hard left "reds", hiding behind environmental "green" facade.
Trump has stirred up all sorts of very nasty and vicious dregs and a visceral hatred from his political opposition particularly the hard left watermelon brigade who canât bear to contemplate any even minor opposition to their agenda
