Normies use it to denote someone who plays a lot of "console" or "pc" video games.

But a real "gamer" is someone who has gotten a "set" off of the SuperSmash Bros player named "Armada".

person1: I heard Mingee got a set off of Armada when they were at a bar together in Ann Arbor...
person2: Yea Mingee is such a Gamer!
person3: You know it!
