Give over

1. Injunction meaning stop it. Particularly used to describe an action which the speaker finds annoying or irritating. Common in the north of England

2. Expression of amazement, upon being told some piece of information the speaker finds hard to believe. Common in the north of England

1. 'Give over hitting us, or I'll tell our mam!

Tarting about

Messing about, fumbling, mucking about: particularly used in the north of England in a derogatory way, to describe some action the speaker believes is not being done properly, or is being done to slowly and inefficiently.

A Northern English way of saying 'How are you?'; used informally to greet someone with whom the speaker is on familiar terms. A comprehensive answer referring to the belly in question is not required or expected.
