netpicking

"Netpicking" is a type of obfuscation and/or nitpicking that generally derives from overfocus on tangential or irrelevant aspects of something as posted on the internet.

"Netpicking" is extremely common in internet message board style exchanges where words and images can be misinterpreted (intentionally or unintentionally), and dissected for technical or semantic inaccuracies, flaws, loopholes, or exploitable phraseologies.

While the "netpick" may be well-intentioned and innocent at times, it's more often used as a defense mechanism in flame wars and debates. The purpose is to ignore the greater, more obvious point, and instead redirect the discussion to something that probably shouldn't even be up for debate.

Other forms of the "netpick" manifest as pointles and often cruel hypercriticism based on "online-only" standards of excellence, beauty, competence, etc. held by the netpicker, who is most likely nowhere near a position to be judging anyone else by said standards.

"Fail" vs "Win" mentality is often a symptom of "netpickers", who rely on the buffer of anonymous internet identities to protect them from the constant hyper-scrutiny they heap upon others, merely for the purpose of entertainment through pointlessly negative commentary.

"Fritz totally ignored my point about abortion's effect on society, and started going off about the definition of 'society'! He was clearly just netpicking."

"I don't care if she has sharp knees. She's hot, and YOUR last date had to be crated at the end of the night. Stop netpicking."

Obamaphobia

A condition wherein someone suffers from obsessive negative delusions regarding Barack Obama. Those afflicted are often prone to propagation of false rumors about Obama in an attempt to discredit him, seemingly out of irrational fear of him and his candidacy. Misquotes, twisting of facts, contextually inaccurate statements, and flat out lies that play on xenophobic prejudices and exaggerated jingoistic nationalism are staple attacks used by the Obamaphobe.

I got another one of those bullshit chain e-mails about Obama from Ted today. That's the third time this week. Ted totally has Obamaphobia.

Blog Fog

Blog Fog is the pollution and obfuscation of news and debate to the point of public confusion or apathy via over-reliance on blogs, "tweets" and other "secondary" news sources.

Such sources are highly prone to distortion of facts, rumor propagation and incorrect reportage; yet are increasingly mixed into the source pool of major news organizations.

Incorrect information as well as intentional misdirection becomes part of the story and is difficult to remove from the public consciousness.

Blog Fog can be used to create doubt about the facts of any story simply by posting contradictory information. Then the very existence of contradictory information can be cited as proof that there is no right or wrong answer, that "both sides" could be right, and so a fog is created.

Blog Fog is similar to the "fog of war" in concept.

All these conflicting accounts of what happened were being spread around and the facts got lost in the blog fog.

lint loaf

Massive accumulation of lint in a clothes dryer screen that can be peeled off in one huge slab, usually 1/4 inch thick or more.

You did HOW many loads before cleaning the trap?? That's the biggest fucking lint loaf I've ever seen!

beard horizon

The point in beard growth when the length is beyond stubble or stylishly short fuzz, and a decision must be made to trim, shave, or let it grow.

A secondary characteristic of many beard horizons is, as the length becomes more noticeable, it can become more distracting or annoying...such as with moustache hair that curls over the upper lip, or chin hair that is frequently messed with.

This douchey chinstrap is gettin' kind of burly...think I've hit beard horizon.

Hey, Justin...your carefully cultuvated "fashionably unkempt" party stubble is turning into a full-blown hipster face-wig. I think you blew past beard horizon some time during a weekend PBR bender.

philosophy

The art of self-confusion.

Reductionism, nihilism, and existentialism are nuclear-options in philosophical discussions that exist barely beneath the surface in any contemplation of deeper issues, and they can be released upon a subject at any time and render it meaningless. Therefore, discussion of philosophy itself carries with it an inherent ridiculousness and pointlessness, as well as constant potential for pseudointellectual overanalysis (such as this).

Philosophy? Meh. That's the only course you'll finish knowing LESS than when you started.

tatneck

A variation of "redneck" where the subject has a neck tattoo. May or may not be "southern" or "hick", just dumb and low class. But typically rural, possibly with delusions of urban association.

Some tatneck is holding up the checkout line paying for his Faygo in nickels.
