a bar in which most of the patrons look dejected or unenthusiastic; reeks of cigarette smoke; any upholstered furniture feels damp even though it isn't; usually has good drink prices to make up for the sadness. In Europe it may be known as a sad pub.

Mary Claire: Do you wanna go out and get a drink?
Laura: No, I don't have any money and I look like shit. I'll go to a sad bar though!
