In Mexico, the term "rancho" could be used to describe both its literal meaning: a ranch, or it could also be used as "village", typically in a rural area and ranging from a few hundred people to a few thousand. The word "pueblo" could also be used to describe a village or small town, but pueblos are usually a bit larger and busier than ranchos.
