Urban Social Entrepreneur is a term coined by Mishael Israel the Founder & CEO of Urban Social Entrepreneurs in 2009.
It is an entrepreneur that comes from the streets of urban communities, sometimes called a HUSTLER, who takes his street hustling skills and combines it with mainstream business skills and becomes a success! He/She than decides to go back to the urban community with that same entrepreneur and business skill to solve some of the social and economic problems in the community utilizing non-profit and for profit ventures. The goal is to put profits back into the non-profit ventures to establish a sustainable social economy.
United Health Foundation is a non-profit that provides Aids services to urban communities. It owns a chain of pharmacies in the community. All of its profits go back into the non-profit so that it can continue its social mission of providing services to its community. This is a sustainable social enterprise that was started by an Urban Social Entrepreneur.
