A member of a University or other academic institution who brings in significant amount of external funding.

Most of the research funding goes to academic rainmakers like Prof. Smith.

A scientist who has never published a scholarly paper in a freely accessible preprint or e-print server.

Professor Smith is still a preprint virgin, he only submits papers to high impact journals.
