solemn low five

The act of quietly and calmly low fiving others when a location or event does not permit for a loud and/or enthusiastic high five (e.g., a funeral, a library, church, class).

Barney: High five!
Ted: Dude, we're at a wake.
Barney: Sorry. (whispers) Solemn low five.

Twilight Effect

The flood of vampires and vampire related (and to a lesser extent, Stephanie-Meyer-related) themes and stories into American pop culture in the late 2000's due to the adaptation of the vampire novels in the "Twilight" series into film form, where women of all ages fell in love with pale, melodramatic people who sparkle in sunlight whilst not being able to act to save their lives.

The effects include, but are not limited to, various merchandise, such as action figures, documentaries, and games with the Twilight license, the dramatic increase in women of all ages at Comic-Con, The Vampire Diaries, Tru Blood, Stephanie Meyer and her adaptations getting green-lit, various vampire-themed comic books by Stephen King and Marvel

Comic Book Geek #1: Dude, the X-Men are going to be fighting vampires now? What the frak?

Comic Book Geek #2: Twilight Effect, indeed.

Freeway Theory

Formulated by Barney Stinson of "How I Met Your Mother", detailing how relationships are like freeways, and there are exits that can be taken to get out of them:

1. 6 hours (aka one night stand)
2. 4 days
3. 3 weeks
4. 7 months
5. 1.5 years/18 months
6. 18 years
7. death

As Robin would later put it, if one person says, "I love you", then the relationship moves into the carpool lane, where there is a big diamond.

Robin: I usually don't get this far in a relationship. I usually take the 3 week exit.
Lily: Don't tell me you're actually buying into Barney's "freeway theory"

Julia Roberts laugh

A laugh that is both unnecessary and eccentric for the matter that the laugh is about. The laugh is usually loud and sounds kind of fake, with the laugher's mouth wide open.

Liz: I'll go down there, turn on the new Liz Lemon charm, a little Julia Roberts laugh. HAA HAA HAA HAA!
