When a person cannot let go of one branch (relationship) until he/she has a good hold on another.

Tracie: If Amy's so unhappy with her boyfriend, why doesn't she just break up with him?
Jennifer: Because she's never actually been single; she won't dump him until there's the security of a relationship with another guy around the corner.
Tracie: Oh I see...she has orangutan syndrome.
