throwing it down

Arguing, most often between parents, that the whole family knows about and/or is brought into. Can escalate from anywhere between a quiet disagreement to a violent fight.

Sister: "What's all that noise?"
Brother: "Dad forgot about Mom's birthday, so they're throwing it down."
