"Urban Panda" was actually coined by Anthony Kiedis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers while on tour in Japan in 2000. The term was used to describe the Japanese girls of Shinjuku and their outlandish fashion which is documented on You Tube. The original footage from the tour was sent to event producer and designer "Kristien Amer" at the time and was subsequently adopted as a business (www.urbanpanda.com) in 2000 and it wasn't until several years later, others began using the phrase.
"In search of the wild panda, the Tokyo panda, the urban panda, the urban teenage panda which are not endangered species today in Tokyo's climate" -- Anthony Kiedis
